How to Store Carbon Wheels Between Rides

Carbon wheels are built to be ridden, but storage still matters. Most storage damage comes from careless leaning, pressure on spokes, heat, transport scuffs, or leaving dirty brake tracks and wet pads untouched after a ride. A few simple habits keep the next ride easier.

Clean before putting them away

If the ride was dry and clean, a quick wipe may be enough. If the ride was wet, dusty, or gritty, wipe the brake tracks and inspect the pads before storage. Road grit can dry onto the rim and pad face, then scrape the brake track on the next ride. Let the wheels dry before covering or bagging them.

Do not lean them badly

Leaning a wheel against a wall by the tire for a short time is usually harmless. Long-term storage is different. Avoid putting side load on spokes, resting heavy items on the rims, or leaving the wheel where it can fall. If possible, hang wheels from a proper hook by the rim or store them upright in a stable rack.

Heat and sunlight

Do not leave carbon wheels in a hot car, near a heater, or in direct sun for long periods. Normal indoor storage is the simplest option. Heat is also one reason to avoid storing a bike with brake pads clamped tightly against the rim. Make sure the bike is stable and the brakes are released normally.

Tire pressure during storage

For a few days between rides, normal riding pressure is usually fine. For longer storage, reduce pressure slightly so the tire is not sitting at maximum pressure for weeks. Do not let tires go completely flat if the bike is standing on the ground, because that can deform tires and make the bike less stable.

Short storage Wipe dirt, check pads, park the bike securely.
Longer storage Reduce tire pressure slightly, keep wheels dry, avoid heat.
Wheel bags Use clean bags only after the wheels are dry.
Before next ride Recheck tire pressure, brake clearance, and quick releases.

Transport counts as storage too

If you put wheels in a car, keep cassette teeth and skewers from rubbing the carbon rim. Do not stack heavy items on top. A wheel bag or clean towel between parts can prevent cosmetic damage. After transport, inspect the brake track and tire bead before riding.

If a wheel falls, is crushed, or takes an impact in storage, inspect it before use. Send photos through contact if you are not sure whether a mark matters. For arrival and support expectations, review the warranty and inspection guide.

Good storage is not complicated. Clean the wheels, avoid pressure in the wrong places, keep them away from heat, and make a quick check before the next ride.
